The Principles Of Sidas Footbeds

The foot is a sensor and in normal shoes (except MBT and Chung Shi) the whole of your body weight rests on a few square centimeters. The pressure exerted on this small area will naturally increase with body weight, higher impact and greater range of movement depending on the type of activity. With such large loads placed on relatively small contact areas, it is no surprise that our feet become uncomfortable and can develop problems over time.

Footbeds are 3D insoles, inserts that are placed in shoes to cover both the sole section and sides of the heel so that the foot sits inside comfortably on a 'bed'. The footbed keeps the foot better aligned, improves posture and offers additional support and comfort. Often referred to as Orthotics, footbeds are frequently worn by people with a wide range of foot problems who require a greater level of comfort. Footbeds are also worn by those undertaking a range of sporting activities (such as running or trekking), where even greater demands and pressure are applied to the feet.

You do not have to experience major foot problems or be an athlete to benefit from a pair of footbeds. Most people experience tired and sore feet for a variety of reasons and really appreciate foot comfort. If you stand or walk for long periods at work you'll notice that as you become more tired your feet hurt more, your muscles fatigue and the foot tends to collapse and change shape.

This is demonstrated in the diagram below:

Many people and possibly have either flat feet (pronated) and hence walk on the outside of your foot, or have high arches or insteps (supinated), which causes you to walk on the outside of the foot. Over time you will notice your feet becoming uncomfortable and will see hard skin forming on the inside or edge of the foot. Footbeds stabilise the foot by giving lateral support, they strengthen the foot and minimize the loss in muscle power and flexibility. The foot is a complex structure and influences how our whole body is positioned.Good feet = Good Posture.
