Foot-Well

Chung Shi Technology

Chung Shi shoes are based on the patented Pilates-type curved sole known as the ‘Balance Step’, which angles at 20 degrees both at toe and heel.

The innovative sole design forces you to walk with a rolling action, working the legs hard and activating previously unused muscles. Walking becomes more dynamic and posture is more upright.

The Chung Shi balance step, angled at 20 degrees to both heel and toe.

The shoes automatically make you walk in a natural and improved 3-stage gait or walking pattern :

  1. The heel impacts with the ground softly so the impact on joints is minimized.
  2. The foot then moves onto the rolling ramp of the balance step, this middle ramp promotes you to move forward, encouraging stronger core and leg muscle activity.
  3. The sole creates a damping effect so that there are reduced pressure points throughout the foot.

On standing you stabilize your body using the balance step, standing is more of a fluid movement rather than being still (which in turn activates muscles).  Though Chung Shi are very different to normal shoes, walking becomes very natural in a short space of time.  We recommend that people start wearing Chung Shi for 30 minutes a day, building up to normal usage over 2 weeks.  We also provide a list of tips and instructions to help people get started.
